Newborn Circumcision

The Dr Modi will conduct an initial consultation with parents, will go through the detailed history of the baby including the medical background of the family such as bleeding disorders. Once the doctor gets satisfied with the answers given by the parents, the doctor takes the consent from the parents that states about the procedure, risks and other factors of circumcision of baby boys. Newborn circumcision is not medically indicated and its the parents choice. Parents may or may not choose to stay present while the circumcision is carried out in the operating room.

Babies Circumcision Procedure

The Newborn Circumcision process is done in the treatment room where babies are awake. Parents are allowed in the treatment room on special cases. The numbing gel/ cream is used to the area 30-40 minutes before starting the procedure. Once the treatment room is all set up, the baby is lied down on the bed and held gently by the nurse assistant. Thereafter, doctor cleans the skin around the penis with the antiseptic solution. Thereafter, small amount of local anesthetics is injected to numb the area. The babies can have dummies or bottle during the procedure so that they remain calm. Parents are encouraged to bring the baby’s favourite toys for them to hold during the procedure.

Our dedicated nurse will constantly interact with the baby and make him feel calm and comfortable as much as possible.

At the end of the procedure, the parents are called in the treatment room to take the baby and feed him. Parents will be shown how to look after the wound dressing.

The nappies are used as usual but with care and routine post operative care explained in detail to the parents.

Our goal is to make it simple for the parents and have the smooth post operative phase. The doctor will be in constant contact with the parents over phone and answer all your questions. Usually, the baby is called in the clinic on day 2 or 3 to check the wound.
